W: Wayne's World *90's Pop Culture Favorites* #AtoZchallenge

Wayne's World, Wayne's World, party time, excellent.  Sorry, but there was really no other way to start this post. While I did enjoy the movie very much, the real purpose in giving it the W slot is to spotlight Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, two great comedic actors whose careers took off in the 90's. In my opinion, they're two of the funniest guys to have ever graced the Saturday Night Live Stage.

In addition to doing funny original characters, like Garth and the Church Lady, Dana Carvey was a master imitator of SO many people, including George H.W. Bush & Johnny Carson. What's rather cool about Carvey is that he ended up withdrawing from the limelight because he didn't want his kids to grow up with a dad who was gone all the time.

Ah, Mike Myers. He's just so lovably goofy as SNL characters like Simon ("Don't look at my bum"), Linda Richman (based on his mother-in-law) and Dieter from Sprockets. He played two roles in 1993 movie So I Married an Ax Murderer. He was both the male lead and the male lead's severely-Scottish father. And of course it was his character Austen Powers that put him into the major big time.

I always wondered what happened to Carvey. Good for him.

:) I'm really going to have to show this movie to my kids. Interesting what became of Carvey.

Dana Carvey certainly had range. And there were some great sketches involving Mike Myers. But I wasn't a big Wayne's World fan. I don't think I was the target audience!

Oh I remember Wayne's World. I was a 12 year old boy at the time so it was right up my alley. I saw the movie over and over, memorized all the funniest lines, I think I even had a Wayne's World hat. Wayne and Garth were a huge part of my adolescence :)

Even if WW was just a goofball teen boy comedy it did two really great things: it introduced Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" to a whole new generation, and it was sort of a comeback for Rob Lowe.

I so respect Dana Carvey for that decision!

Being a Bond fan,I really got a chuckle out of the original Austin Powers. There were things you couldn't appreciate without a Bond background. But the later movies just didn't make the grade.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :-) Good W post.

I really like the posts you made for this theme!

I always loved Carvey's impression of George H.W. Bush. Both Myers and Carvey are just comedic legends. I still sometimes pull up the video of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that includes clips from the movie... so funny!

SNL has spawned so many talents, but I'd have to say Ackroyd and Belushi were the top comics on that show. 'Excellent' almost became an overused word. . .

Nice pick and I liked that beginning, Nicki!

I didn't know Linda Richman was based on Myers' MIL!

Mike Myers created some of my favorite characters, ever. I STILL quote Linda Richman!

I loved Dana's Bush impersonations! I don't know he withdrew to give his kids a normal life. That's great.
I loved Wayne's World; it was so funny. I like some of the SNL sketches they do now, but the ones that were written during Dana Carvey and Mike Myers' time were on another level.

I am a big Wayne's World fan and I love that era of SNL. Funny enough, I now live in Aurora, Illinois, home base of Wayne Campbell! Who ever knew?!

So glad I found your blog for the A to Z challenge! My posts are about Memorable Characters.
