M: Martha Stewart *90's Pop Culture Favorites* #AtoZchallenge

I'm not afraid to admit it---I was a rabid follower of the mother of all domestic divas. As the owner of a 1950s ranch in need of a makeover, and with my business career set aside to stay home with my kids, I was primed for a takeover by Martha Stewart Living (1991-2004) and all its hyper-domestic stylings.

During my Martha years, not a candle wick strayed from the 1/4" ideal, and rarely did a plate of Christmas cookies make its way out of my did-it-myself decorated home without a sprig of fresh holly attached to it. I eventually broke free of the Stepfordness of it all, but I'm very glad to still occasionally call upon the things that woman taught me.

Glad there were some of her habits you didn't pick up!

It always made me laugh that she could do these things and make them look so easy, then when I tried I ended up with a total mess.

Wow, Nicki, I'm impressed!!! I'm with Julie - most of my Martha attempts turned out terribly. So if you could pull it off, kudos to you! probably healthy to break free of the Stepfordness, though ;)

Well, Martha did teach me how to fold a fitted sheet, which is no mean feat!

Some of her ideas a pretty cool, and some are insane. I keep reminding myself that if one had a large staff like she does, all those homemade touches would be no big deal. But since I don't...well, I enjoy that fact that some of her ideas are laughable, because laughter is the best medicine, right?

Happy A-Zing!

Where's a photo of your Martha Halloween costume? ;) I can only imagine how resourceful she was with what she could buy at the prison commissary...I bet she loved learning how you can clean just about anything with a maxi pad (that tip comes compliments of Orange is the New Black).
I never thought she'd recover from her jail time but Stewart still reigns supreme!

I cannot bring myself to say I liked the woman, her delivery or her elitist attitude. She got caught with her hand in the old cookie jar.

But as thumper said, 'if you can't say something nice. . .'

Haha, Alex! My wife was/is a fan of her. If you know anything about me, then you probably understand why I'm not a huge fan of hers. I have to admit, I don't understand why some people hate her so much, though, other than they feel inadequate in life.

I didn't try many of her ideas...but I never really succeeded anyway, so I guess that's why? lol I did enjoy seeing her TV show now and again though :)
An interesting theme for the challenge
I keep meaning to look up more of her advice and apply it to my apartment. Then maybe it might make living in a tiny studio apartment at least a little more bearable.

I can't do anything that Martha does. I'm hopeless.

I love crafts but I can never do anything she shows on her show. Not back in the day and not now. haha

Like Tammy I too wish I was your neighbour at that time.

Visiting from A/Z; I love your theme; I had fun perusing some of your other entries, brought back a lot of memories from the 1990s. All I can remember with Martha Stewart is her spending a few months in prison and when going to the store and perusing the household section, her name was "plastered" over everything, but I am sure she is very talented in the art of cooking and decorating :)

Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

I've met women who either hate or love Martha. No one is ever indifferent to her.

I never followed her, but the holly on a plate of Christmas cookies is a great idea. =)
