Insecure Writers Support Group - October Edition #IWSG

Hi, gang! I hope your Octobers are off to a good start. I sorta blew it on a pact I made with myself during IWSG earlier this year---to finish the first draft of my manuscript by the end of September. I'm not even close to finished, folks, not even close. Nor have I had much of an inkling to seriously dive in.

The weird thing is...I'm totally okay with that.

A year ago, I think I probably would've freaked out hearing myself say that. But the beauty of not making any real money at writing fiction is that I don't feel beholden to it. And right now, I'm truly appreciating the things I do when I'm not writing---more so than I did before I dove into writing, I think.

Here's a picture of one of the things I'm appreciating more. It's a restored prairie across the street from where I live. It's the greatest place to walk and walk and walk whilst I catch up on listening to my favorite podcasts.

Since I feel as if I should talk about something related to writing in this post, here's my answer to this month's optional IWSG question: Have you ever slipped any of your personal information into your characters, either by accident or on purpose?

I shall answer with another question: Have any of you not slipped your personal information into one, if not all, of your characters?

It sounds as if you have found peace about your writing and that you are writing as time permits. And that is A-Okay.
Wishing you all the best. I believe you'll get back to your book when it is time to dig in to it once again.
All the best.

Feeling at peace and happy with yourself and what you've got going on is huge. Good for you!

I don't feel pressure to finish my manuscript, either. Too focused on others' anyway and that's okay.
I'm not freaking either! If I've written all the stories I was supposed to write, I'm all right with that.

Hey, Nicki!

"But the beauty of not making any real money at writing fiction is that I don't feel beholden to it."

I resonate with this statement, though my drive to finish a novel is more about my Type A personality than making money. Still, it's nice to take my time and not worry about when I don't have much time to write. I'm planning to change some aspects of my WIP plot based on current events, and if I were rushing, I wouldn't be able to do that.

What a lovely location to visit, right across from your house!

Finding peace is a beautiful place to be. A restored prairie? Love it. I was restoring mine a few years back in Ohio of all places. It was going great until my life took a one-eighty. I miss my prairie, but now I have my jungle. Another beautiful place to be.

I'm completely guilty of slipping personal stuff into my characters.

Love that picture of the prairie. I would love to walk there and just let my mind wander at will.

Great to hear your attitude is so relaxed. That WIP will be finished when it's ready to be.

That was a good answer to the question! I actually didn't get to answering it because I thought, "Where do I start?"
Well I’m not in ALL of the characters. Most, but not all. :)

Wonderful that they’re restoring natural areas so close to your home.

I think all of my characters have something of me in them, but not enough to make them me. :-)
