So,,,,why did I think having college-age kids would mean summers would slow down? It's actually crazier than when they were little because my life's moved on to include a day job and a writing career that don't take the summers off—but the kids show back up and a whole new layer of activity dashes any hope of routine. At least it's a good kind of crazy. :)

Still, I look forward to a few weeks from now when they'll be back into their routines and I can get back to mine. One of my favorite things to do with a little extra "me time" is to escape into a good book. I haven't brewed my coffee so I wonder if I imagined the sound. Plonking  the half-filled carafe in the sink, I go to the front door and cautiously swing it open. No one there. As I cast my eyes to the ground, I see a parcel addressed to me ... from me. I scoop it up and haul it inside, sensing something legitimate despite the extreme oddness of the situation.
