The Most Awesome Summer Playlist Ever #SongsofSummer

Welcome to my stop on the Songs of Summer Bloghop, hosted by The Armchair Squid, Suze at Subliminal Coffee, and Cygnus at Servitor Ludi. Their fabulous idea is for each of us to name 5 songs that scream summer to us for one reason or another. By the end of this hop, we shall have the most awesome summer playlist ever. Please feel free to add your name to the linky below and play along. Here are my contributions (song links open in a new window in case you want to listen while you read):

Never Tear Us Apart; INXS  This one played many a time on my boom box with twenty-year-old me slathered in baby oil, catching maximum rays on my parents' back deck...despite all of my wise father's warnings against the practice. I was in a major angsty, melodramatic phase (dark mood to go with my dark skin coloring, I guess) so this song was my absolute fave.

Lava; B-52s  'Tis hot and not to be taken too seriously, just like summer. I saw the B-52s one summer at the World Theater in Tinley Park, IL. The memory is a melancholy one because the concert was supposed to be a birthday gift for my baby sister, but the little tyke was sick and couldn't come with. :(

Dani California; Red Hot Chili Peppers  This one brings to mind family road trips. RHCP is one of the few of my husband's musical preferences that I don't whine about, so when we're stuck together in a hurtling tin vessel, we listen to them a lot.

Soma; The Strokes  Reminds me of summer simply because Julian Casablancas's voice makes my temperature rise. Grrrrr

In Summer: Olaf  C'mon, I can't be the only one to have this on my list. I know the movie's become highly overdone, but this li'l snowman's naive charm and spunky 'tude are as fresh as a...wait for it...summer's breeze.

That's nice you can handle the Chili Peppers for your husband!

I love Olaf! I have a stuffed talking Olaf and he sings that song.
Great list, Nicki! I like the Strokes, too, though... not for the same reason you do. ;^)

A great list, Nicki!

I like both INXS and the B52s AND the RHCP's! Not much familiarity with the Strokes though -- I guess that thankfully I don't have enough arterial blockage to have ever gotten them. ;) Catchy song though.

And is that last one from a movie? I don't know if I've heard of it...

I'm KIDDING!!!! My seven-year-old grand-daughter lives with us, and I've seen and heard Frozen so many times, my brain is literally frost-bitten! But I love her, and it is a great movie with wonderful songs, so when I find myself getting annoyed by having to hear it AGAIN, I just breath deep and let it go... Let if go...

Dear hubby and I were just talking about INXS last night, and by talking, I mean he sat there with a smirk while I went on and on about how great INXS was...

My friend and I were at an INXS concert, and we got everyone to stand in the isles and slow dance to "Never Tear Us Apart". I'm weird like that; unapologetically so. I'm not sure that is spelled correctly, by the way.

GREAT list! Thanks!

I didn't play in this hop but I'm enjoying hearing lots of summery songs. Makes me wish for some beach time.

Ah, the B-52s. I still sing Love Shack all the time. I got me a car, it's as big as a whale . . .

Love,
Janie
I love Red Hot Chili Peppers, but "Dani California" isn't one of my favorites. It's definitely summertime though. A bangin' list Nicki!

The video clip from Frozen made me smile. So cute! I saw the movie last Thanksgiving and had forgotten how cute little Olaf was.

The only on this list I didn't know what the Olaf song. I guess I'm the only person on the plant who still hasn't seen that movie; oh well. I think you list rocks! Thanks for sharingin.

Believe it or not, the first one is the only one I expected from you! Glad to hear the rest as it gives me a better feel for the great and powerful Nicki of Elson. ;P

Oh, how I LOVED INXS!!! I was gutted when Michael Hutchinson died. He was such a great frontman, and every song of theirs was a winner. I also loved Dani California! Great list!
I have to admit that I haven't heard these songs, but it's always good to hear about new music that I can listen to.

I knew you'd have some great songs on there. I do like that Chile Peppers song. I listen to it on the treadmill often. :)

First blog I've hopped to where I see my musical tastes really reflected: everything from RHCP to INXS to the freakin' Strokes! I love the Strokes. Great summer list. (I have NOT watched Frozen yet, my kids are 13 and 16 and not interested. I may have to force them to watch it.)
Good picks, but I think I like the video song best. My hubby and I haven't seen the movie "Frozen" yet, but we hope to watch it with some of our grandchildren in a couple weeks.

Have not seen the movie, so do not know "In Summer."

Not having kids means I don't have to see movies that require you to say "it's for grownups, too" after seeing it.

Liked the other songs, especially the INXS tune. I still miss that band...

Love the INXS link. They were a childhood fave. Lots of good memories with the B52's, too.
AND the World Music Theater, which has had more name changes than Prince. I saw my first "grown up" (Ha! I was 15) concert there. Depeche Mode. Enjoy the Silence...
Thanks for the post!

I'm sure I've heard all these songs, but none of them really ring a bell with me since I have never really listened to any of these groups to any great extent. Good list though.

I think the Chili Peppers have a good selection of songs that are road trip-worthy, and they definitely remind me of summer! Good choice there.

That Olaf song cracked me up, as he didn't realise he was in mortal peril while singing it. ;)
