Insecure Writer's Support Group: January 2015

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to the first 2015 meeting of the Insecure Writer's Support Group, founded by the one and clonely Alex J. Cavannaugh. (If you haven't joined the club yet and are interested in learning more, click on either of the links in the preceding sentence.)

JUST read the memo about the brief introduction, so here it is: I live in the Chicago 'burbs w/ one husband, one bunny, one teenaged son, and a daughter who also lives across the state border at university. I work in digital and print marketing for a local retail icon so I get to do lots of writing at my day job. I realize now that I've written fiction in my head my whole life but I didn't start putting my stories into words until the summer after I turned 40. I'm so happy I didn't wait any longer.

I burrowed pretty snuggly into the Land of Offline the past several weeks, so I'm excited to bop about today to see what's up with all of you. My insecurities are the same ol' same ol' for January---a year's worth of new goals and concern that I won't be able to do it all. I've learned by now that setting a schedule & sticking to it is key, so that's what I'll do...and when I trip over inevitable obstacles, you'll get to hear all about it at future IWSG meetings, hehe.

The first super exciting thing that'll happen for me this year is the January, 23 cover reveal for my upcoming chick-lit romance VIBRIZZIO, If you'd like to post the cover on the 23rd (and get a slightly early peek at the goods), please sign up at Xpresso Book Tours.

Lyssa Bates doesn't need a man. Not when the world is fully stocked with double A batteries and a wide array of options in Amazon's health and sexual wellness category. Coming April 21, 2015 from Swoon Romance.

Yesterday I revealed the wicked awesome cover of SOMETHING WICKED by Carol Oates. Take a scroll down to see it. :)

Congrats on the new book! And I like a schedule, too, but I try to keep it loose, give myself some breathing room.
Happy IWSG Day, Nicki. Congratulations on your new novel! Exciting. Hope the opening goes smoothly with tons of sales!

Congrats on the cover reveal and the upcoming release! I've tried to stick to schedules but it just never seems to work for me. Maybe I just need to create better schedules...

Vibrizzio eh? Sounds a little shaky to me.

Maybe January should be removed from the yearly calendar? Less insecurity perhaps, but also no more birthdays for me. Hmmm--be nice not to get any older.

Oooh a new cover! Congrats on another new book!
And I didn't start putting my stories down until I turned 40 as well. Here's to late bloomers. :)
It is the same old, same old for me too. I have a lot on schedule too and am worried about keeping up with it all. What can we do but keep working.

When I really don't want to write, I make lists: publishers to contact, agents, other reviewers, etc. When I'm working, brain ticking off words faster than I can type, I don't make lists and forget even important family schedules. Nevertheless writing is my main goal. At 74 how many days do I have left?
I dreamt about the number 6,000. Wonder what that means. I hope not 6 k rejections.

Congrats, Nicki! I don't post on Fridays (I'm trying to stick to my goal of limiting my blogging time and writing more instead), but I'd be happy to promo this either the Wednesday before or the Wednesday after. Shoot me an email and let me know which you'd prefer, and if I should signup at Xpresso :)(lizblocker at gmail)

How did everyone but me see this intro thing? Sigh. I think I need to go add it in...

I'm with Arlee about January being removed from the calendar, but that would only mean a new name for the same dreaded month!

Congrats on your new book. May your sales be the highest!

Whoops, I missed the memo about introductions. Was that an email? I am so excited for Vibby! And that cover from Carol is gorgeous. Hooray for time to do some writing on the day job!
Can't wait to see your cover!
I was offline for a while over the holidays and it was awesome.

Congratulations on your upcoming release! I'm horrible about making schedules and to-do lists. I got that trait from my maternal grandma, who's notoriously laid-back.
Memo? Yeah, guess I missed that. Whoa...how exciting for you! I LUV the title of your book. Best of luck! I'll check my calendar, but I think I can sign up to help spread your good news.

Ooo. Can't wait to see the new cover. Yeah, I'm just going to do what I can do and watch Survivor. :)

I missed the memo or completely spaced on it... one or the other.

Can't wait, but I must. I better stock up on my triple A batteries before picking up latest, greatest. Signed up to participate in your launch. So happy for you, Nicki.

I'm trying out the whole schedule thing right now, it's tough sticking to it but I am finding that I am being more productive, so it must be working lol.
